OUR WINES

BRIGANTE BIANCO
IGT Terre Lariane

Brigante stands for a young playful wine, the name also wishes to reference the origin of the name Brianza, in local dialect the term “Brig” means highland, hill.

Grapes: Chardonnay, Manzoni Bianco, Traminer, Verdese (ancient lake variety)
Cellar: Fermentation in steel, brief period of ageing in concrete tanks. Bottled for at least two months.
Production: 11.000 bottles
Tasting notes: Brigante combines the freshness and sapidity, typical of our area, with the softness of the fruit and the sweet smell of the aromatic component. The ancient Verdese variety contributes to the sapidity and the more delicate floral scent.

SOLESTA
IGT Terre Lariane white

The Celts who used to dwell in the Valle of Curone, Brianza, celebrated the summer solstice which was a meaningful event, with propitiating rites. This took place on the terraced “pyramid” where the vines of La Costa now grow. The “radiant” character of the wine gave us the inspiration to name it Solesta, as a tribute to the day that marks the transition to summertime.

Grapes: Riesling Renano (at least 85%), Manzoni Bianco
Cellar: Vinification in steel and in 20 hl acacia vats, fining of yeasts until the end of May. Periodic batonnage, then concrete tanks and bottled for at least 12 months.
Production: 5000 bottles
Tasting notes: The Riesling grape variety highlights the area’s characteristics: acidity, sapidity, floral notes of exotic fruit and flint (due to the minerals in the soil). Manzoni bianco variety gives the wine a softer edge. It’s a longevous wine worth tasting even after a few years.

SERIZ
IGT Terre Lariane red

Seriz is the local dialect term used to reference serizzo, it’s a stone which was used to build some of the most valuable architectural elements in the brianzole dwellings. Serizzo is also present in close proximity to La Costa vineyards, they are huge erratic boulders which were dragged there during the ice age.

Grapes: Merlot (minimum 50%), Syrah 12 months in wood, partly in 20 hl barrels and partly in barriques, 6 months in concrete tanks, bottled for at least 10 months.
Production: 6000 bottles
Tasting notes: The fruitiness of Merlot draws more spiced notes from Syrah. The wood, which isn’t the most important element, tones down the freshness, which is typical of wines in this area.

BRIGANTE ROSSO
IGT Terre Lariane rosso

Brigante stands for a young playful wine, the name also wishes to reference the origin of the name Brianza, in local dialect the term “Brig” means highland, hill.

Grapes: Merlot (minimum 85%).

SAN GIOBBE
Red table wine

The cult of Giobbe was deeply embedded in Brianza, this is testified by the many votive frescoes dedicated to him in the farmhouses and rural courtyards, like the beautiful mural of La Costa. In the local tradition, Giobbe was depicted as an old austere man near a mulberry tree, surrounded by silkworms; the brianzoli peasants had elected him as the Saint protector of silkworm breeding, a fundamental agricultural activity in Lombardy at the beginning of 1900s.

Grapes: Pinot Nero
Cellar: Vinification and ageing for 12 months in durmast vats, 3 months in concrete tanks. Bottled for at least 6 months.
Production: 6000 bottles.
Tasting notes: Our Pinot Nero characterises itself by the intense perfumes of small fruits and floral notes. When tasted it’s “sweet” and long-lasting, supported by a good tannin; presenting itself “on the tips of it’s toes”, hiding it’s structure behind it’s elegance.

VINO DEL ‘14

The wine of 14 tell about a particular summer, not at all hot and very rainy. Our red grapes, selected with rigor, have produced this wine, intense in flavor and elegant in the mouth, which combines the delicacy of the Pinot Noir, the liveliness of the merlot and the spicy of Syrah
Grapes: Merlot 50%, Syrah 20%, Pinot Noir 20% e Cabernet S. 10%
Cellar: Fermentation in still, aging in 20hl big vats for 8 months

The Vineyard

12 hectares of vineyard are home to many different varieties, but the chalky soil rich in minerals gives the wines similar characteristics, enhancing perfumes, tastefulness and freshness.

The considerable temperature range, characteristic of the park’s micro climate, is a key element to obtaining wines that express finesse and elegance.

The presence of rock provides dry soil conditions and it’s the reason why there is a particular type of vegetation (project “prati magri”). It’s not the most productive type of viticulture but it does favour production of concentrated wines, each plant yields approximately 1kg of grapes (40Hl/ hectare).

The whole vineyard is planted on ancient terraces which form a steep morainic theatre in the Valle del Curone.

The vines are grown espallier (guyot and cordone speronato) and pruned according to “potatura soffice” method, it’s cultivated completely organically.

The Wine Cellar

Cascina Galbusera Nera

Rule number one, respect and value raw materials. Wine is created in the vineyard.

For this reason the grapes from each variety are processed separately. Subsequently, they are blended carefully to express the desired individual personalities of the different soils, of the different years, reducing to a minimum “exterior” additions (sulphur dioxide, bentonite…)

The Wine Cellar is open for tours.
